Started working on the Daily Log redesign today. The FT-inspired newspaper feel is coming together nicely. Warm cream backgrounds, serif typography, and a two-column layout that feels premium.
The Design Philosophy
I wanted something that felt like reading a quality newspaper - think Financial Times meets a personal blog. The key elements:
- Warm cream backgrounds instead of stark white
- Playfair Display for headlines, Source Serif for body
- Two-column layout with posts on the left, links on the right
- Click-to-select any day to see that day's saved links
What's Working
The newspaper masthead with today's date gives it that "daily edition" feel. Each post has a clear date header, and the typography scales beautifully.
The sidebar updates dynamically when you click a day - no page refresh needed.
